For the last three weeks I’ve not been able to park anywhere near the gym where I swim on a Tuesday night, however, last night there was a distinct lack of cars outside the gym in question.

I wonder why? Is it because the best intended ‘New Years Resolutions’ of people losing ‘x’ pounds are already starting to slip? Well, I think its fair to say that we all know the reason and it’ll probably be the same next year and year after that if we’re going to be honest with one another.

Indeed I also happened to listen to Chris Evans on Radio 2 last week when he said that the third weekend of the New Year is statistically when the wheel falls off in our best laid plans about whatever we’re going to do differently.

This therefore prompts me to ask how we are all doing with our 2014 Sales and Business Development plans ?

More importantly, if I get back to Mr Evans point, then statistically many of us have already given up on the consistency that will deliver the sales growth that you probably told your fellow Directors and loved ones you would achieve in 2014.

Why does this happen ?

I’m convinced it’s the classic prioritisation failings that we all have from time to time and the lack of consistency in our approaches, primarily because we are all generally such busy people.

I for one know that I am guilty of losing consistency from time to time but it’s vitally important that we are able to recognise this fact, quickly get back on track, and easily identify the difference between ‘Important’ and ‘Urgent’

We’re fast approaching the end of January and hopefully the year has started as well for you as it have done for us at Sales+Profit.

If the year has started well then great and well done!! If the year has not started quite so well then I would encourage you to please review what you promised yourself, and everybody around you, and make sure you are being highly consistent and dedicated to achieving it.

None of us want a slow month to turn into a weak first quarter of a year do we ?
