Quite often we get asked to clarify what we do for our clients, so for those that are new to Sales+Profit:
What we do is work alongside business owners to dramatically accelerate their sales:
Some clients are a little stuck and experiencing little or no growth. Other clients are already growing and just want to grow even faster. Some clients are ramping up their sales for an exit or trade sale.
Regardless of the need, it’s often quite interesting to talk to people about their perception of what a Sales Director actually does
- Can you help us from losing our best sales talent?
- Will you help with our sales commission plans and incentives?
- Can you help train and mentor our sales people?
- Will you help with the negotiation strategies for our bigger clients?
- Can you help us strategically target the right businesses moving forward?
- Will you help us with our sales recruitment plans?
I firmly believe that a Sales Director is a pivotal leadership role in any business and, at the risk of offending any accountants, it is because we are able to generate the sales (the lifeblood of all business) and that we should be suitably remunerated.
I’ve been able to observe many Sales Directors who are often falling short of making the real difference that they should be. Often these are people who have grown up the business and are simply the organisations most experienced, or historically successful salesperson. It’s worth adding that very often this is a straightforward recipe for ZERO growth.
What I’m also pretty confident of is that the best Sales Leaders DO NOT:
- Keep hold of all of the big accounts for themselves
- Spend all of their life trying to win the biggest deals
- Be the person at the top of the revenue figures
- Ignore new sales talent and keep things to themselves
- Repeatedly ‘buck the system’ to get their sales stuff over the line
Why not have a look at some of our other blogs at salesplusprofit.com/blog and decide for yourself. All of our clients are growing faster than their industry average – if you fancy joining them why not drop us a line?
